The new Linux+ exam beta is presently avalilable. You can take either exam. No telling how long the old exam will still be available. they run the beta until they have enough data to evaluate the beta. This depends how how many people take it. They never set a definite date so they have more leeway. I wouldn't wait much longer if you want to take the old exam.

Has any books popped up on the new objective??

I just got the word...

Linux+ SME's will be meeting Jan 24th in Chicago for a final review of the beta exam data to determine the contents of the new Linux+ exam. The revised exam will go live shortly(?) after that.

If you are ready, take the old exam. It has heavier weighting on hardware. the new exam has about half the hardware, more security and admin. Beta exam is discounted (while it's still available).

No books or study guides for the new exam yet as it's too new and not finalized. Here's a good article on the beta...

Examining the New Linux+ Certification

I took the old exam. It's not too difficult, but I think the new exam will better represent the skill set needed by entry-level UNIX/Linux admins. Either way, once you're certified, you don't have to recertify, so if you're confortable with the current exam topics, I'd say go for it. Good Luck.

To be honest the old L+ exam was the easiest CERT exam I have taken. There were a lot of A+ type hardware questions.

I took the Linux+ ages ago but when I took it was like 60% Server+ type questions (raid and so forth) and very basic linux stuff. I think it is a good entry level Linux certification and a good spring board if you want to look at RHCE and Unix certs.

I just read on the comptia site that the old exam will be retired on 31-July-2005.
