Problem with linux install

| Hello all. I have a Dell laptop that is 800mhz P3 256meg ram, and 11gig drive. I tried installing Mandrake 9.2 and RedHat 9. Everytime I install if finds the video fine (ATI Rage Mobility) but it can't find the display since it is a flat laptop screen. I have tried everything (Dell laptop screen, generic monitor) and it doesn't work. What can I do or should I do?

| Have you tried manually inputting the monitor's resolution, refresh rates, etc? That usually works for me. |
