| install Windows XP first, but leave a good bit of space on your drive for linux. then install linux. you will be able to use lilo or grub as the bootloader. they come with most linux distros. | |

| i successfully installed WinXP on my new machine, i leave 20 GB unallocated partition for linux but when i tried to install linux it cannot detect the IDE controller of my machine, my machine is 2.60Ghz with Intel 865 chipset. what went wrong? | |

Is this an onboard IDE controller or a PCI adapter like a promise? | |
