| Hey all...in an attempt to get better with Linux and perhaps go for the Linux+ certification, I was considering loading Linux to a notebook that was given to me. It is an older Toshiba Tecra 8000. It has a P-233 MMX CPU, 128 megs of ram, modem, dual PCMCIA slots, 3COM PCMCIA NIC and a 6 gig HDD. Based on that configuration, any suggestions as to the distro to load? I took a look at the bootable version of Knoppix (the STD version) and really liked it.
I'd be interested to hear any suggestions or comments that you have.
Thanks! | |

| Don't use Knoppix if you want to learn Linux and pass Linux+. Use and learn a real distro like Red Hat. Actually install it and not boot off it with a CD. | |

Get Red Hat and Debian . . . I had questions on both of the package formats, and it helps to be familiar with both.

Yah, the test is Red Hat biased with an apt-get (debian) question or two sprinkled in.

| Papiya I notice from your postings that you are more of a Linux and networking person. In other words you're not into Microsoft, right or wrong? | |

| I support and develop mainly on HP, Solaris and Red hat platforms, so yeam I am more of a "Unix person" than Microsoft. Mind, I have written a few DLL's in my time, but just a few. And I plan to keep it that way. |
