| I'm trying to set up a NIS domain. So far I've set the server up (freebsd.) Now I want to set up the client(linux) after the install. My question is do I have to log in as root (the same account on the server) or do I create a new root account on the client then enable the NIS client? Which root account does it accept?Does the user login locally and then have to login to the NIS server? I've been reading my handbook but I'm not too clear on this subject. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! | |

| Thanks for the help. The fog has lifted now. I just need to configure NFS and then set up the client. I will probably have more questions tomorrow | |

| NFS is the easy part, IMO. | |

| I've started over. I was wanting to get dns working then NIS and NFS. But after starting up my client machine I found my DNS wasn't working. So I started over to get a fresh start. This time I installed RH 9. I used the redhat-config-bind and set up my domain. Now after trying to restart rndc I'm getting a connect failed connection refused. In my /var/logs/messages the startup succeeds but it fails when loading configuration files. What am I missing here? | |

| DNS issue solved... well not really. I removed all the bind packages and associated files. I assume it had something to do with the rndc.key file. I'm sure though. It works now so I'm happy!! |
