Why doesn't someone just get rid of the allegedly patented code in linux? I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard for a talented linux programmer to re-code the functionallity that the dubious code provides... i mean, people are saying its only 100-200 lines of code.... thats nothing!

BTW - Where is this code supposed to be? in the linux kernel, or in the sysvinit program?

I don't think there are just 100-200 lines of code can build the Linux kernel

no i mean there are only 100-200 lines of "SCO" code, i.e the disputed stuff. it would be a piece of piss to re-write just those lines to avoid so-called copyright violations

It is going to be more than a couple of hundred lines of code. Have a look at the last paragraph of:
