Is Sun solaris any use in messing with? I know its Unix but is there really any difference between linux and Unix besides pricing? Anyways, I purchased a copy of it and tried to install it but everything is in French. It started out in english but changed to french for no apparent reason. I didn't see anything to select the language either and I ran the damn installation program three times. See

Why did you attach a picture of a Windows XP desktop?

Solaris is alive an well. It's not used nearly as much as Linux, but is probably worth learning if you want to master Unix.

Solaris, like any proprietary Unix, is something you learn if you have to because you work for a company that uses it or you want to work for a company that uses it. If you just want to learn Unix, learn BSD. Once you know BSD well then it's not too difficult to adjust to a different Unix if you need to later.

Well he did'nt really. What is of interest is the VMWARE window. VMWare and Virtual PC are programs that emulate additional PC's on one fast system with lots of memory. It works sort of like DOS boxs where they think they each have their own 80286. VMWare lets each program think it has a pentium so you can install multiple OS's. Notice the tabs win 3.1, DOS, WIN OS2, solaris etc.

I couldn't make out what that window was when I first posted.
Now I see it clearly with the better screenshot posted.

Thanks for pointing that out.
