Not exactly sure what you mean, but you can set the timeout= line in lilo.conf to a shorter time if you find it taking too long. As long as LILO don't stop while displaying LILO (for example seeing LI might mean the boot loader is past the 1024 cylinder limit and/or the secondary boot loader, boot.b, is missing or corrupt).

| For example,
During boot it says mounting usb file system, then it pauses for 10 seconds. Enabling swap file, and pauses for 5 seconds?
Is the system spawing processes/daemons to 'activate' these items during this 'wait state'?

Ok you are talking about after LILO loads. Thought you meant LILO itself. Did this always happen or just recently?

| This has always happened. I'm just wondering why it does it?
I have all these questions becuase I am just starting to learn linux/unix at school, towards a CIS. I will have many more questions, and your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

| I dont have a real good answer for that. It takes a few secs to initilize them. It's not that anything is wrong or defective..or so it seems. |
