Is there any sort of Linux simulator that can be loaded onto a Win32 box out there that is worth a damn? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Simulated Linux? Isn't that kinda like simulated sex?

Your best bet is to put a seperate box together and install Linux on it. It can be something as low as a 386. It doesn't take much. You need the practice with installs.

Half measures avail us nothing.

You mean something like knoppix?

Supertech:

Yeah, well...in a perfect world that would be the answer. Problem is for the situation I have that is not a viable option and a simulator would be more an answer...this is not for a certification but something lese it would take too long to explain.

Thanks anyway

Boulware5:

Looks like Knoppix will do the trick. Will download and give it a shot. Thanks very much for the info.

Have you used it much? Anything I need to be aware of?

Thanks again!

knoppix is great but I never could figure out how to operate as root. This does restrict you.

When you make your knoppix cd, make sure you make it a boot disk to get it to work.

Hmmmm...I tried it last night, but it did not boot. Just the autorun portion came up after Windows started. I used Fireburner to make it from the ISO. Should I use Nero and set an option to make it bootable? Sorry for the dumb questions, but I have never had to make a bootable CD-ROM before.

Thanks!

Interesting about the root issue. Have you ever tried Morphix? Seems to have the same idea, but not sure if it works any better.

Thanks!

Try www.vmware.com

Install the vmware in the Win32 box and you can create a virtual PC inside, then you can install the Linux. Plus you can create many virtual PC and have them network together. They have evaluation.
