Mandrake is fine. No need to switch to Red Hat. Although, you may want to upgrade to the latest edition of Mandrake, Mandrake 9.1

And so many more...

Do you have access to a Linux box?

Did anybody else see the article in the recent Linux Magazine about Mandrake filing for bankrupcy?

On January 13, 2003, Mandrake filed a declaration de cessation des paiements ,French for "Chapter 11."

acruth,

Actually, forget what I said. I say switch to Red Hat (9.0 is out now and it's outstanding). Doing this, you'll practice installing Linux, partitioning, etc. Plus the L+ exam is slightly Red Hat biased.

So yeah dump mandrake and do a Red Hat 9 fresh install.

acruth7284,

I can burn and send you the install CDs. Just send me the money for shipping, maybe a dollar or so for the CDs and you will have the CDs for A LOT cheaper than buying the box set. Let me know!

On the other side, by buying it you will be getting great documentation and are also helping to support the OS - which is a good thing (supporting a non MS operating system). However, that same documentation can easily be found and printed from the RedHat site. It's up to you...

I am learning Linux also
You can actually find everything you need for it online
There are some sites that will sell you copies of the CD's for a buck or 2 I think
Almost all of the software for it is free also
