If you have a Sparc it's very nice. On x86 hardware you'd be better off with one of the BSDs IMO.

Thanks for the INFO.. I want to get FreeBSD but I don't have the cashe to be the book and I'm running a dial-up so it will take days to download it.

i don't have a SPARC system it would be running on X386...

Thanks again

For the purposes of learning how to use Solaris, x86 hardware should be fine. Btw, I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but the mini ISO image has everything you need to get started with FreeBSD. At 189MB, it would still be a pain to d/l with dial up though.

if you goto www.linuxiso.net, you can get them to send you isos of pretty much anything worth having. the *bsd cd was $6 for s/h.

I actually scraped up the money and went to buy the FreeBSD book from a local Barnes & Nobles.. Didn't have it.. Then I went to another. They didn't have it. So I went with RedHat. I'll be getting FreeBSD soon. I'm in the process of building another Box right now..

A new edition of my favorite FreeBSD book is coming out next month, so it's probably just as well that you put off learning FreeBSD for now. I strongly recommend purchasing theis when you get started with this OS. I'm not sure about this edition, but the previous one came with FreeBSD CDs.
