Ive been working on configuring this suite on a box and I must say im very impressed.

However, these tools are processor intensive and Im wondering if Ive misonfigured something as CPU% is 50-60% utilized by psentry, hsentry combined. Or maybe this is normal?

What are others using to achieve the same results? Are they a neccessary compliment to a good wall?

What kind of hardware are we talking about? How much traffic is running through it? I have portsentry running on a couple boxes and processor utilization remains very low (toping 5% is unusual). Neither of them has to pass more then a couple megs a second on the interfaces that port sentry's running on though.

Its a pent133

Very minimal traffic on the interface. It seems Ive got something misconfigured?

Either that or hostsentry is a processor hog. I've never used it before. Portsentry shouldn't strain your processor at all in the setup you described.
