Why is it so difficult to get the mouse to work with most of the freebsd's?. Still like the look and way bsd works though as its more closely a resemblance of Unix as a variant. If you agree holla back. Come on you know freebsd is your favourite Unix like OS

I use FreeBSD now. Yeah, I too have had some mouse problems in X-Windows. I'm sure you have configured it in sysinstall, right? One thing that worked for me was to change the mouse protocol in XF86Config to "auto" then my mouse worked perfectly in GNOME.

Yep! you're right Boulware, its x windows that am having problems with. But I'd have a go on your suggestion. I still think freebsd is a good Unix like OS though, what's your take on this? Thanks for your assistance in the meantime

Let me know if changing the mouse protocol to auto works. I'm curious to see if it does for you. As for FBSD...It's awesome. It's not nearly as bloated and GUI-intensive as RedHat. I have had some issues with the install, but I got through it. And I have had a few problems with 5.1 so I went back to 4.9 which worked great for me.

The install is a bit confusing I agree. And setting up a GUI is also a bit trickier. But it's faaaaaaaaaast! Once you get used to it, you probably won't go back.

What kind of mouse are you using?

I run FreeBSD on 80% of my servers, and OpenBSD on the remaining 20%

The BSDs are very nice operating systems. You don't have all the bloat that comes with most Linux distros, and making everything source centric makes my life a lot easier.
