Author how can i pratice Unix?

hi guys,

i decided to pick up Unix, but how should i get started?

install linux and pratice?

That is really the only serious way to learn it. Install a distribution on a system and get started. The command line is where you will really learn linux. If you want to just get familiar then you can use one of the graphical live distributions and play around. A live distribution does not have to be installed and boots from CD creating a RAM disk. You really need about 512K of RAM to really play with them.

The two most common live distributions are Knoppix and SuSe. You can download either distribution from the WEB as ISO images and burn them to CD.

I recommend Knoppix. It boots and runs completely from cd. You don't install it on your hard-drive, so you can't mess anything up. Once you feel ready to install a real distro, go with Red Hat, Mandrake or Suse. Linux-Iso is the place to download the ISOs (including Knoppix).

Have to agree with azimuth40 here. Install your distro of choice without the GUI and you will actually start to learn things.
More correctly you will be forced to learn them :-)
