It is my experience that most "techies" are afraid of programming. I have found a site that shows you how to program in Linux. there are basic and advanced courses that will rid you of this fear. The page is at:

http://www.icanprogram.com/

The current lessons are at:

http://www.icanprogram.com/20ux/main.html

It is an 8-week course with group support (yahoo groups). Very beginner friendly. You might want to try it if you are afraid of programming.

Good luck all.

I wouldn't say I'm "afraid" of progamming as I have done some before (mostly in a classroom setting) is that I always can do the simple stuff but as soon as it starts getting difficult I can get quite fusterated.

Thanks for the links.
