Is the only difference between prepackage Linux sold as personal/professional/server
editions is the number of CDs included and documentation? Just wondering since I see it being sold labeled like that. I am under the impression that the only difference is what
componets you install and how you customize it.

That depends on what distro(s) you're referring to.

I always use the free/downloaded versions, so am unfamiliar with the packaging names. I assume they are mostly the same, but check at the distro's web site to see the differences to be sure.

I have seen this for Red Hat and one other.
I have read about Red Hat Advanced Server on their website but seems more of paid support then the actually product itself.

Yeah, it's mostly a matter of more included support. They'll also sometimes include non-opensource software (Star Office...). For the purposes of learning Linux, the free versions will do.
