just curious what do most of you guys use for email and how do you combat spam. (user's end, not on mail server)

I am currently using evolution + spamassassin... it catches about 80-90 percent of the spam that I get so what it miss is manageable. any other solution out there? (yes... I haven't done much research to this matter... )

hmmm boulware, you wrote about popfile, have you try spamassassin? looking for comparision here if available...

yes yes... sunday has gotten to me so I am unusually lazy... I sure could just try it out myself

Haven't tried spam-assassin. Popfile worked great when I used it on my windows system. What I did to combat spam was to change my email address. I called my ISP and requested I get a new email address. And this time I wont give it out to sites. Best way to end spam.

I use mailwasher. Simple, free, and it works.

Use spamhole when you only need to get the first email (for a PW or if you need to supply an address to access a file or site).

www.spamhole.com

Not that this will replace a filter but can if nothing else pospone widespead distribution of your address.
