| What are your opinions on RH 8.0? I've been a Slackware user for the past few months, but I'm going to give RH 8.0 a try. Being that the Linux+ and of course RHCE (if WAY down the line I do that) are Red Hat biased, I figure that it would be better to get used to the System V approach of Linux. | |

| In the last two years, Red Hat has come a tremendous way. They have outstripped most of theiur competition recently and with good reason. As for 8.0, it still has some bugs, so if you're just hacking it might be OK, if you are looking at production servers, I would stick to 7.3 for the moment. But in general, it is solid, stable, easy to use, pretty, etc. My mom and dad can use it easily as long as I get their accounts to boot into KDE as soon as they log in. Your slack experience will be of great help to you, however.
By the way, the Linux+ also has Debian on the exam. It's lighter than Red Hat, but it is there all the same. | |

| 8.1 is in beta right now. Will be interesting to see if they fix the bugs. | |

| I'm dual booting RH 8.0 on my Dell Optiplex with win2k server, and i've also just installed it on my Thinkpad T-21. I am loving every bit of it. I did have some problems in the past when I tried to set up a dual boot w/RH 7.3. Maybe I have become more Linux proficient since then or RH 8.0 has become easier to install. I'll go with the latter LOL. |
