Passed LINUX+, thoughts....

| Passed the exam on Friday - 95 fairly straight-forward questions. Used one hour out of the 2.5 hours they give you for exam. One of the better written COMPTIA test, only a few of the poorly written opinion type troublehooting questions that are so prevalent on the Server+ exam.
Was surprised about a lack of A+ type questions on exam that others claimed to have seen. Also was surprised to see that exam allowed you to miss 25% of the questions and still pass.
One good thing about this exam is that it forces you to learn the CLI. There were no references to any GNOME or KDE GUI based Admin tools, although the directories and the corresponding folder paths for Admin tools was highly referenced. Troublehshooting from CLI was also big on exam.
Not sure if Sybex and ExamCram books along with SelfTest software were best tools for this exam, although they did give me 60% of the knowledge I needed. Practicing from CLI is really 40% of this exam, of which in my brief time in using LINUX I have not used every possible command combination that I saw on exam.
Every Windows IT person who wants to break into LINUX/UNIX should prepare for and take this exam, in my opinion. It certainly helped me related to career objectives I have for next year.
On to MCDBA. | |

| Thanks for the feedback & congrats! Nice, early Xmas present if you ask me. I myself will also be following the MCDBA path once I'm done with L+. Good luck on the coming year. | |

| Hearty congratulations on notching Linux+ under your belt! I'm sure your thoughts and comments regarding the test will be helpful to those still preparing to take the exam. Good luck with your next cert. | |

| My exam was 94 questions and i had 120 minutes not 2.5 hrs. I took the full time and marked half of the questions for review. But when i reviewed them i still didn't have a clue. There is so many switches that it can put you off if you don't know them. In my test the A+ and N+ questions kicked of around Q.60 and went until about Q.80.
I went to the actual VUE testing centre because it was the only place open 2 days before Xmas. I don't know if this is true but maybe i had the latest version of the Linux+ exam which is 2hrs only, because i thought it was 2.5hrs which i have seen advertised on certain sites. | |

| Congrats on your pass. Thinking of going for Linux+ myself in the future. I think Linux will grow in popularity as Microsoft tries to license everyone to death. |
