I was told that the odd numbers on Red Hat, were beta ver. (i.e. Red Hat 7.3) and that the even numbers are the real vertion. Is this true? If is true, then should I get RH 7.2 or wait for RH 7.4 to have the real ver or RH 7.3 should be O.K.

Thanks

I have not heard of this. Could you be thinking of kernel releases? Odd number kernel releases (the second number) are development versions any may not be stable.... such as 2.3.1, 2.5.6, etc....

Yeah, I think you're thinking of kernel versions. AFAIK, the same isn't true for RH.

Thanks guys,

An IT person at my work told me this after I install Red Hat 7.3. I'm new to Linux so I was not sure if it was true or not. The person said the odd numbers on RH versions. The person did not say anything about the kernel versions unless that's what that person ment but the person did not check the kernel version.

Tell him you need help figuring out which kernel module you need to load to get your NIC working and see what type of reaction you get
