I don't know if I should be posting this here, or in the general discussion forum. Does anyone know what to download for open BSD? The question is, what, I already know how The instructions are so vague, on the FTP servers, there are all these folders, and I don't know what folders go on what cd Can anyone help me?

AFAIK OpenBSD doesn't put ISO images on their FTP servers. A google search might turn up some unoffical ISOs but officially, they don't offer them because they want to encourage people to buy a CD instead. You can still download floppy disk images and do an FTP install though, it just takes a little longer. The instructions are fairly straight forward for creating the bootable floppy disks for an FTP install so I'll leave it up to you to find them. If you have any trouble finding them let us know though.

Thanks guys, I'll look into it. I'm usually used to things simple, right to the point and being up and running within an hour. How many disks will this take?

ccieToBe, how is the ISP coming along? Get it up and running yet?

I belive you will need 2 1.44MB floppies.

I'm getting there. School starts back the week after next so I'm trying to get my network setup before that happens and most of my free time disapears. So far I've been having a lot of fun. Long range 802.11b networking is amazing

ccieToBe,

I'm just wondering is there any web sites where I can find information about starting an ISP (requirements, day-to-day operations, etc..).

Let me know when you have it up and running, I am still in need of a high speed line for my web server. Just setting up a means of security. Would you happen to provide a T1?

NetChild1985 here ya go:

Doesn't really go deep into detail about starting an ISP, but it gives you a general idea. Here is another link, go to the bottom of the page:

Very intersting setup he did, I wish I thought of that last year when there was no broadband in my area

A lot of how you do this depends on how you're going to deliver the bandwidth to end users. Here's a simplified model of how I'm going to to this for fixed wireless:

Upstream provider
|
T1 or Frame Relay
|
CSU/DSU
|
Router--> web servers
|
VPN/DNS/caching servers
|
Access point
|
Antenna
|
Air
|
Antenna
|
Wireless USB or ethernet adapter
|
Client's PC or Router

I haven't really found any one web site that will tell you everything you need to know to start an ISP. Here are some sites that I use:

http://cisco.com
http://isp-planet.com/
http://80211-planet.com/

Depending on where you live I might be able to provide service to you Are you in Florida? If so, we could probably pull this off. Otherwise, I don't think it would be feasible. I will be offering web hosting and colocation services as well though. If you're interested in that let me know and I'll send you some info as soon as I work out the details.

I live right in Tampa Bay, about 1 hour from Lakeland. I'm just deciding on going with either business class RoadRunner, or a T1, or even fractional. I'm expecting a potential increase of my web site in the future after launching it. Do you provide a DNS server as well? Let me know the details and foward them to jer_ramb1114@hotmail.com

Thanks!

It's amazing how opportunities appear when you least expect them. I've also recieved a couple IMs and emails from other examnotes members interested in my services and/or offering to help. A month or so ago I thought that I was was going to lose money for the first few months but now things are looking up. I might actually start out breaking even. Thanks everybody!
