| This is interesting. SAIR is turning the administration of its SAIR Linux certs over to LPI while SAIR's parent company, Thomson, will continue to write all the tests and testing materials. And it appears that LPI will also continue to run its own cert program as well.
My guess is it will only be a matter of time before SAIR merges with LPI.

The Sair Linux/GNU certification program will get new life, thanks to a partnership between Thomson Learning and the Linux Professional Group (LPG). Ownership of the program has been transferred to LPG, who will update the current exams and continue to develop and promote the program.
Meanwhile Thomson Course Technology will serve as the exclusive provider of authorized training materials for the program, and Thomson's Prometric testing division will continue to administer the exams.
"Thomson is committed to supporting the Sair Linux/GNU certification, and we felt it was in the best interest of the program for it to reside within the Linux community," explained Meagan Walsh, Marketing Manager for Thomson Course Technologies.
A new Web site, still being rolled out, can be found at http://www.linuxpg.org.

| Has anyone heard anything about the status of the LPI series of exams versus the SAIR exams? Do you think they will be consolidated? I would really like to hear input on which cert to take. I would like RedHat except for $$$. (No tuition re-imbursement for this one) So I am looking at the variety that remains: Linux+, LPI or SAIR. Input? | |

Well, Linux+ if you are not real experienced with Linux. LPI and Sair are a step or so up from that (at least). | |

| I'm leaning towards LPI. I think it has better recognition at this time. I believe that IBM recognizes LPI certs? | |

| Yes, IBM recognizes LPI, as well as SAIR and RHCE for their IBM Server Expert (Linux) Certification. I have passed IBM's test and now studying for LPI. A friend just took the first LPI 2 times and passed it on the second try. He said that it was no joke, and you had to know your stuff very well. For study material he used the LPI in a nutshell book. I had planned on taking it a while back but been too busy.... I plan on taking the first LPI in late august and the second one in september.
