I'm new to Linux. I just got and install RedHat 7.3. I'm trying to connect to the Internet but, I can not get it to work. I have an account with NetZero and that is what I'm trying to use. On W2K the connection is Automatic but on Linux; I'm not sure which Phone # to put in. Does any one know of a better why. Thank You.

Dont quote me on this but from what I can tell on the netzero site they only support M$ OS's they have a message saying that they may pick up Mac but no mention of Unix or Linux. I to am getting ready to dive into linux and have Netzero and was also curious about this. If anyone knows a work around for this please advise

I saw that, about the Mac support. I sent an E-Mail to Netzero, asking about Linux support but I have not recieved a reply from them. If they reply, I'll let you know what they said.

I dont know how they are about responding to questions but if you do hear anything let me know, if they did I would make a Linux box the day I found out.

I use earthlink and when I dial up I don't go through their software I'm not sure how to do it with linux, but on all my windows machines I go to dial up networking and setup the connection manually(for earthlink you have to preceed the username with ELN/), there has got to be a way to do this in linux

if my modem worked with anything but windows I'd check it out but I'm sure someone here knows how to do it

I connect with earthlink, no problems there. Mail your ISP and ask them for the phone number to dial and your DNS servers. If they won't give you these, you may have a problem.

i know the phone # and could get the dns server easily enough through my windows connection but I don't have a modem that will work with linux (I have a HSP microModem)

Might want to try getting a hradware modem. Those WinModems are no good.

I emailed the manuf. and they don't support anything but windows so I'll have to get a new modem if I'm gonna use it at home. I'll just wait till I go with broadband to set it up at home

VMS kid, I did e-mail my ISP(netzero) asking for the phone# to dial but, no reply. I'm going to try netzero/loginID and see if it works. What about Internet Connetion Sharing with M$ W2K?

check here for the phone # http://my.netzero.net/s/numbers#View
but I don't think you'll be able to just dial up like I do with earthlink because of netzero's software/adware deal, while I'm not sure if this is different if you have their "Platinum" deal where you pay a certain amount every month but I know that aol users can't create a manual connection so I'd be inclined to think netzero users wouldn't be able to either. It could also be a simple .dll you need to edit
