| Most distros include something called minicom or xminicom. I don't think it's for actually setting up a modem; rather, for testing it to see how it's working. The same modem commands you learned for A+ work, such as AT (tests if modem is working), ATZ (resets modem), etc. | |

| Minicom and Kermit can be used to send commands directly to the modem, and to find out whether your OS is communicating with the modem. I usually use minicom to find out which port my modem is on then set a symbolic link from that serial port to /dev/modem. Then I use that in the configuration files. |
