| I read an interesting article in the Latest copy of Computer Shopper, May 2002 that I thought all you Unix/Linux users might like. It is an Opinion article written by, "John C. Dvorak".
I tried to search for the article at computershopper.com, but they only list 2 opinion articles. John's is Called: The case of the Disappearing Desktop"
In a Nutshell the article talks about the demise of Macs & WinPC's. He talks of Windows operating system's complexity. His last paragraph, "The desktop computer of the future won't operate this way. More aspects of the system will be automatic and limited. It will be neither Windows nor Mac, but a modified Linux machine running a simplified version of the OS with a Mac-like GUI. It will sell for $299 and be very fast and seemingly powerful"
I suspect you all know this already, Linux will one day be the Desktop OS of Choice!

| At one time I doubted this, but with KDE 2.x, I am no longer a doubter. If anything, KDE is easier to use than the Windows GUI, and more functional. The main obstacle now is that people just still tend to believe the old Linux desktop is either a command line or the trusty olf fvwm desktop. If they tried it once, they would be converts as long as the "real" OS could be sheilded from them. |
