| I have a few Questions for any of you that are currently studying for the LPI certification track/or the ones who are already certified.
I went to the LPI web page:http://www.lpi.org/p-index.html
I have questions about are the length of time the Certs are good for, ie, Certified for life once you pass?? And the length of time between going on to the next level. Level 1 to Level 2 and then on the Level 3. Looking over the Linux Certs out there, it appears Linux+, Then the LPI program and onto RCHE would be a good career path to take for Linux certification progression.
Give me your Views, opinions fellow Penguins!

| I haven't heard how long the tests are good for. I will begin my study of LPI-1 soon, though. I just aced my Linux+ on 25 March, LPI and HP-UX are next for me, RHCE is still kind of intimidating for me mainly because of the cost. | |

| When I looked at the objectives at LPI.org, it seemed like the certs are good for life.
There seems to be no required time frames between except that they recommend that you have some experience with Linux. Although it is not a hands on type of exam like RHCE, the questions ask for specific things like what switch would you use to do something.
Also there questions feature multiple choice, multiple answer, and fill in the blank.
I believe they have level 2 out now and level 3 is still in progress.
I studied for the Linux+ before moving on to the LPIC ones. Now that I have taken exam 101, I have a general feel for what they expect you to know. It is harder than Linux+ but it seems quite thorough and fair. In exam 101, not so much hardware stuff but the questions were more balanced from every objective so this was a much better test as it covered all the objectives evenly.
Good luck!

| I just took the Linux+ last week. My experience has been about 2 years of using various Linux Distros and FreeBSD. Eventually I would like to go with the RHCE, but the cost of the test is a little steep. I read through LPI Frequently asked Questions and did not find anything on how long the Cert is good for.
Hawaiian?? What Study guides did you use for 101?

| I have been only using "LPI Linux in a nutshell" by Oreilly & Assoc. The book is okay but you will need to refer to other sources for more detailed info. At least it gives you a starting point. I studied for the 101 test for about 1 month. I actually was studying for the Linux+ & LPI 101 at the same time.
I used cert21 LPI 101 practice questions for about 1 week before taking the exam.
Since I have a better idea now what LPI is looking for I will try to refer to some of the other sources prior to taking the LPI 102 exam. I hope to take that exam by the end of May.
Good Luck. |
