| According to IDG...
Sun is still the leader in global Unix sales with a 30.7 percent share of the market. HP had 25.3 percent, IBM had 22.5 percent and Compaq had 7.7 percent.
They claim the top vendors such as Sun and IBM are focusing on the mid-range market. The mid-range market is defined as servers selling from $100,000 to $1 million.

| Dissident board member Walter Hewlett, in a lawsuit filed March 28, claims HP execs. improperly pressured a major shareholder (Deutsch Asset Management) into voting 17 million shares for the buyout by threatening to withhold business from the bank.
A voice-mail message from Carly Fiorina HP/CEO was leaked in which she alludes to the deal with Deutsch Bank.
The whole deal will probably be determined in a Delaware court. You need hipboots to stay above this stuff.
In the mean time, nobody knows which product lines will stay and which will go. Dell is selling a lot of gear because nobody wants to buy equipt. that won't be supported by the new HP/Compaq. | |

| I heard last year that HP was planning an Intel port of HP-UX, but since have heard no more about it. I doubt it will happen as it might cut into HPs profits a bit, but it would make running HP-UX a lot cheaper. |
