| I just came across an old (Feb. 9, 2002) story on Linux certs at Source Forge
http://www.newsforge.com/article.pl...232&mode=thread
The interesting part of the story is the pass/fail percentages. The story quotes a Red Hat official saying that 4,000 have taken the RHCE exam, and only 2,500 have passed. LPI reports 1,300 have taken its exam since mid 2000 and about 50 percent have passed. Based on these stats, there doesn't seem to be too many Linux certified people out there. Then again, there probably isn't much of a demand either.

| Exactly. There isn't much supply or demand for Linux certs. There's plenty of demand for Linux skills though. | |

| I agree with you, ccieToBe. If you ever wanted to be a certification contrarian, now would be the time to get a Linux cert. Last time I checked there were more than 480,000 MCP's in the world compared to less than 5,000 with Linux certs (my estimate).

I just checked and there are 1,218,303 MCPs. That's kind of scary, especially when you consider that over half of those MCPs are probably in the US. That's relatively a large percentage of the total population. | |

| WOW! That is mind blowing ccieToBe. It really makes you think about even when the economy does rebound, will there be enough jobs for all those MCPs and MCSEs? (I'm sure there will be because Windows is everywhere.)
Where did you find the 1,218,303 figure? I looked around the Microsoft site and could not locate it. I'd like to find it because I am working on a report on the future of IT for a friend.
Thanks!
