I'm wondering how many folks plan to get some sort of Linux certification whether it be Linux+, LPI or RHCE. Does anyone know if SAIR is still in business?

Afaik Sair's still out there. I'm not going to try for any Linux certs until I'm within reach of the the rhce which is probably a few years away.

I`m doing the ccdp test on the 12th but right after that I`m going to start studying for Linux+.
Why?
Studying for certs helps me to really learn the subject matter and I want to learn Linux.
My intuition tells me a certain level of proficiency in Linux will be must have skills in the very near future "next couple of years" if not already.
I can use linux and get around it fairly well but I don`t "know" it.
Plus this will be a good short break from Cisco before I go full bore into my CCIE study`s for about a year.

I hear you chodan.

I am busy studying for CCNA (Subnetting is driving me nuts!) and I also have to take a few MCSE tracks, but once I'm done with those, hopefully in a few weeks, I plan to jump on Linux+. You're right - studying for a cert is one of the best ways to learn.

Good Luck on the CCNP!

Apologies for the dual message. I thought I pressed the button once.... guess it didn't work ;-)

Next couple of years? Forget that, Linux is hot now! It is no longer a "fringe OS", but is 100% mainstream and people have seen its value. So skills in Linux are highly valued now.

I am doing my Linux and Unix for now and after I am done will go on to Cisco like yourself.

I plan to get Linux+ sometime down the road, you never know when you're going to run into it on the job!

Don`t let subnetting get you down also don`t rely to much on subnetting charts or subnetting calculators, they will handicap you in the field, learn it the slow hard way and it will always stay with you.
When I was first learning SN it went slow then one day "bing" the lightbulb went off in my head.
