I've heard the Linux bible is good:

I'm using the Linux+ Bible.
I have not taken the test yet
but I do like the book,
I mean, now I know how to install, configure,
and administrate a Linux system all from the command line.

I'm just getting into the GUI stuff now and troubleshooting a Linux system.

It also comes with Phat Linux
that you can install in windows
as a real running Linux system
so you can put to practice what you learn.
Phat Linux runs from a file(s) and does not
touch any of your windows files.....
When you want to delete Phat Linux you just delete the file(s) ...they are all stored in one directory.

All that stuff is on the CD-ROM that comes with the book.

I thought that was a bonus to have
for helping me learn linux

But I do have an extra Linux box
on my spare PC (Red Hat 7.2 installed)

I can't comment on the other books
available because they are not
available on the shelf at my local book store yet

I haven't taken the exam yet but I have read the exam cram and I am still reading the Linux+ Bible . As far as I can tell the book to get is the Linux+ bible much more in depth.

There was a review on Amazon.com
that said the Linux+ All in One had a zillion errors.
The All in One A+ book had a 40 page
errata and they ended up re-doing the whole book because of the complaints.

That kind of made my decision
to stay away from these All in One books.
They might be full of information
but they are put together rather sloppy.

but back to the orig post
you might want to check out the Linux+ exam cram. If you have some Linux experience
it might be all you need.

I wouldn't mind a book with "a zillion errors" if it 1. has a concise errata page 2. is a good book

Few books are 100% error-free, and many of those "zillion errors" are probably typos that don't make much difference to the information being presented. For example, I have the All-In-One guide. On each page it has the name of the book, "Linux+ All-in-One Exam Guide, except on page 378, where it has "Linus+ All-in-One Exam Guide". An error, yes, but does this really affect the study material? Besides, this is Unix, if there is an error, it will usually become apparent as you try to set your server up.

Nope, work for a university. But I know a lot of times people can whine about these kinds of errors when they really don't take much away from the book. I am still shying away from the exam for now, because I haven't heard a whole lot about it, other than it is heavy on the hardware. I am using Roderick Smith and Jeff Durham's books at the moment as those are the only ones I could find. Good luck to you as well.
