Linux on an NT Server Domain

| Hi,
I recently plunged into the world of Linux with Mandrake 8.1 Standard. To get some experience of what it would be like in a work environment, I set it up on a spare computer at work.
The thing I am wondering about is how to go about logging it onto the domain with my NT username and password. I have got a LAN internet connection working (although how it is doing this without authenticating is a bit strange). The documentation that came with the CD doesn't go into great detail on configuring a network connection.
So I thought I would see if the experts here have done this before.
Thanks for the help. | |

| To log into the NT domain you'll need to install Samba www.samba.org and then use a program that comes with it called smbclient. It's a command line utility and once Samba's installed you can get information on its syntax viewing its man page (type "man smbclient"). Samba might already be installed so type "whereis smbclient" to see if it's already there.
As far as why you're able to get onto the network w/o logging in already, just think about the OSI model. All the NT authentication stuff happens in the upper layers. | |

| Thanks for the info, I think working on Linux today has threw me a bit, as the answer to why I could get on the internet was a bit obvious!
