| I downloaded four FreeBSD ISO's and threw the images onto disk (Yay for me). When I was downloading them, I noticed an CHECKSUM.MD5 and a mini-ISO in the same FTP directory.
I know what a checksum is for, but I don't have any idea on how to use it.
Also, anyone know what the mini-ISO is for?

| cat CHECKSUM.MD5
md5 mini.iso
And make sure the output's the same. In Linux the "md5" command is "md5sum".
I think the mini-ISO is the same as disc1, but w/o all the packages. All of the FreeBSD installation files and the ports collection are still there.

| Hm...Is this used just to make sure you are downloading the real thing? | |

| Yeah, if say, someone where to hijack your FTP session and insert a trojan into the ISO image the md5 would change. Of course, that's assuming they don't also change the md5 file
Actually, in my experience a file becoming currupted during the d/l is muc more common. |
