Linux/Unix - monitor goes into off mode at the Login screen

monitor goes into off mode at the Login screen

Hi,
My linux system is corrupted,the screen goes onto offmode without giving the login screen. (I have my runlevel set to 5).
Also I don't know how to force the system to stop at text login when you are in runlevel 5.

Can anyone suggest me a solution for this. I want to recover my system without reinstalling.

Try re-installing Linux and let Linux probe your screen as this sort of problem can be caused owing to the wrong monitor screen settings.
