What does everyone think of the SAIR track now? I emailed them (SAIR) the other day asking if the track was still active and all that.. Got a reply saying they were growing and everything is definitely active and MLCE should be coming out soon .. Supposedly SAIR will usurp LPI as far as Linux training for HP/Compaq and IBM.

Just wanted to get some feedback on what other people getting certified onm *nix think about SAIR. Recognition aside, I think SAIR has a much better track than LPI ..

Supertech Thanks!!

This explains a lot. The SAIR rep who responded to me was the president of LPG, no it was not an automated response. I was surprise, but with Linux and opensource stuff in general you deal with real people and not automated stuff.

So, does anyone think this will really be one of the main targets in Linux certification, other than RHCE? One thing I like about SAIR is that it provides a means to, essentially, be certified on Apache, MySQL, PHP and etc. Think I will further with SAIR []

In the U.S. Thompson Learning is a powerhouse in the educational book publishing industry. They dominate in lots of areas. Although I do not think they are the best their books use full color, often glossy throughout. It makes their offerings appeal to a lot of buying agents when they are given a choice of several titles.

They supply books to universities, colleges, vocational training schools and secondary schools on anything IT. Thompson hates to lose and will sink money into any market that they want to own.

Getting LPG to join them on SAIR can only mean they have decided that Linux is going to increase market share. Can't rely on MS for everything if you are in the book and education business.

Remember also the point that Prometric testing centers are tied to Thompson. I can imagine this MAY push SAIR as prefered over LPI in a lot of circles.

My guess is it'll depend on what employers decide they want for certifications. I like SAIR's vendor-neutral approach. Anyone seen one particular cert required more often over the others?

I've just recently decided to certify on Linux & halt my M$ tract. I've found the materials available for Sair to be very thorough & detailed - quite granular /well laid out/more inclusive & detailed content/easy to navigate & understand // over most of the other stuff out there.
Linux+ materials don't give me much. They're too vague.
RHCE gets quite technical in certain areas while leaving big holes in other areas.[ this has to do with the material-takes several books to cover RHCE properly]
LPI is good as far as it goes. Not enough detail.
For me, I've found the SAIR materials to be the best for self study no matter what tract you are persuing. Verbose, without explaining it to death & describing how an atom is made.
Sair tests are administered by Thompson/VUE - which means it is easy to find a testing facility. RHCE only tests at 50 to 60 locations world wide. The closest one to me is over 600 miles away. To test on SAIR is a 15 minute drive.
