Hi,
i have a little problem with my Linux 7.3 installaion.

My XWindows systems is not working. i don't even get the login window. The screen turns red and remains like that. nothing happens.

During the installation my VGA card was correctly detected, even the screen resolution test worked fine.

Can anyone of you help me with this prob???

Try making a backup copy of your /etc/XF86Config file, then running Xconfigurator and resetting your screen settings. Something may have went awry in the automatic configuration that can be put to rights by hand-tweaking.

Thanks Mr. Linux Guy , I have tried running theXconfigurator wizard. it didn't work too. The screen goes into an offline mode and nothing happens, when restarted again system prompts the command prompt login.

One other thing I want to know is that I gathered the Display Unit information from my Windows(Win 2000) configurations. (This is a dual boot machine).
Will this be an issue. Can I use the same information (resolution, memory etc.)in Linux also .

there are a few other programs such as XF86Setup and xf86config which may help you ingetting your X Server uop and running. Some distros also come with Superprobe, a utility that probes your video card for more info. You may want to try these. What kind of video card do you have? You may do OK going with a lower quality server such as VGA_16 or something if it is not supported. That usually works. Yes, the stuff in Windows "Display" properties can be used to tune the Linux X Server properties. Might want to just try playing with it a bit.
