| For those who know, or have heard, is the Linux+ difficult. Just a general thought. I have no Unix, Linux experience, but I have access to a Unix box, and can practice commands and so forth. Is this cert a high level cert, or is it an intro? | |

| Linux+ is definitely an intro cert. There seems to be a preponderance of hardware questions as well so having A+ cert would indicate not having any problems with those types of questions. Learn Red Hat if you're going to take Linux+.
LPI 1 would be another entry level certification to obtain and would lead into obtaining LPI level 2. http://www.lpi.org | |

| The Linux+ was the easiest test that I have ever taken. I had several years of experience with Linux and already had my RHCE, so that may not mean much, but I think if you have from 3 to 6 months experience with Linux and understand the basics well, you should have no problems acing the test. About 1/4 of the questions on the test were A+ hardware questions . . . mainly SCSI, IDE, and so on. A lot of questions about disks and expect an IRQ question. The rest of the test is divided up into X configuration (very light), system administration (adding users, reading logs, etc.), network administration (ifconfig, traceroute, ping, etc.) installation, package management and general use. Be sure to have a good grasp both Debian and Red Hat package management systems. | |

| Linux+ is the cert that equips you with the basic and useful knowledge. | |

| Randy, why did you even bother with the Linux+ if you already had the RHCE? | |

I took the beta exam. I was mainly curious about it, and freak had asked me to write a simple study guide for it so I thought it would be a bit absurd to wrote a guide for something when I do not have the cert itself. Besides, in the event that CompTIA comes out with the SNAIL cert (Server+, Network+, A+, I-Net+, Linux+ consolidated), I would already have a heads up. |
