| I saw a mini.iso for FreeBSD 4.4, and I waqs just wondering in what way this ISO will be handicapped compared to the full-blown version. If anybody knows, or have installed and used this version, please let me know. | |

| I haven't installed it but I imagine it's the full blown FreeBSD w/o all the packages that are included with the standard distribution. Those packages take up large amount of disk space. I almost never use packages anyway since the ports collection is much larger and more flexible.
Btw, FreeBSD 4.5 is scheduled to be released on the 20th. You may want to wait for that. The only major improvements I know of are fixes for some recently discovered file system bugs (mostly NFS). | |

| If I install this, would I be able to download the seperate packages and stuff and then just install them speperately, like X-Windows and stuff (not that I really use it, come to think of it)? | |

Yes, you could. I recommend using the ports collection for installing applications though. If it's not included on the mini ISO image you can download it (~15mb). It includes Makefiles for 6,xxx apps so to install any of them you just change in the directory containing the app's Makefile (/usr/ports/category/app) and type "make install" to download, compile and install the app. It can't get much better then that  | |
