Question:
I am not understanding the Certification requirements for RHCE. As well as pass a hands on install, troubleshoot a RH network and a written test?, do I have to take a course with Red Hat that costs about $2500.

You don't HAVE to take the course, but it is recommended. You could just take the exams and labs and that will run you 745 bucks.

That was what I was looking for.

I have one institute here and they are offering 4 sair linux gnu subjects . That will be 6 months course . And it will cost about 2000 $ & they said that exam fees will be included in that also . And they also said that you will definately pass the exam this is the gurantee because we will give you very good training what do you think ?

No place can "guarantee" a pass. Personally, to me it sounds too expensive. The way I learned Linux was by getting a copy of Slackware from an online store for 2 bucks plus shipping. I put it on a partition on my Windows box. After that, I just played around with the config files, looked at the docs and visited a number of online sites, and I learned most of what I needed to know. No reason to spend serious money on these certs.

I agree with sibley on this. IMO $2,000 would be better spent on setting up a great lab to try things out with. I can see paying to taking classes for the more advanced certifications like RHCE, CCIE or CISSP once you feel you're ready for the exam(s) and want a good review but otherwise I'd got with self study alone.

I had a chat with 1 guy who had experience on linux about 3 years . But he don't have any certificaion . He said that if i wana learn linux then install it at your home PC and play with it and on irc you can also go to channel #linux and ask there plus he told me that to start learning linux i will recomend Redhat . And i have been told that if you wana become real expert in linux don't work with GUI(graphical interface) work as much as you can with command base . What do you guys think about this ?

I agree with all of that except for what distro to start out with. RedHat's one of the better distros to start out with but I think Mandrake's a slightly better choice.

well i had installed thrice Redhat 7.1 with my windoze partition but that was not accepting bootable floppy then i installed 7.2 it worked fine but it deleted my windozeeeeeeeeeee now i had installed windows back and thinking to get 1 333mhz pc with 6 gb hard disk and i will install on that . I also have Mandrake 7.1(which is old i think so ) what do you think ? or should i install both of them by making 2 partition ?

It's up to you. Ideally, I try to put Linux on its own disk, but when I installed Red Hat 7.2 on a partition that I also use to run WinME, it seemed to work fine. The default boot loader now is GRUB and it seems to work fine.
