I was thinking about this: If I put a 2nd harddrive dedicated to Linux on my PCI Promise ATA 100 Ultra card, would Linux have to support that promise card in order for me to do it? It's kinda similar to a SCSI card and I'm not sure if Linux likes those.

Do you have the RAID model or the IDE controller model? AFAIK the IDE controller is compatible with Linux and the RAID controller isn't. I'm not sure which distros do support the IDE controller by deafault and which ones need to be configured to support it. This is a popular card, so it seems like the default support would be good.

I have the RAID model and have been unable to get it to work with anything other then Windows, FreeBSD and NetWare.

I have the IDE. It's the promise Ultra ATA/100 Controller Card for PCI. Think Redhat 7.1 would have built-in driver support for that?

Yeah it is. Just found a nice little site in which you can search for hardware compatibility under linux: http://www.linhardware.com
