I'm new to the Unix/Linux world but trying to learn fast. In my travels I've stumbled across this site: http://www.qnx.com/demodisk/how.html I must say I'm blown away by this program. A fully functional web browser (GUI) on a floppy that only requires a 386 processor and 8 mb of Ram and a floppy disk drive. NO Hard Drive or OS required. Instantly gives functionality to that old clunker gathering dust and makes it hard to hack into your system without a hard drive attached!! I'd love to hear comments from anyone else has come across this program or used the full operating system which can be downloaded (29 MB) The more I learn about Unix/Linux, the more I like it.
By the way, no I don't work for the company, I'm just impressed that all this fits on a floppy and you can add Telnet capability to it as well. Cheers, Grollo.

I've heard good things about QNX, but haven't gotten around to trying it yet (have the CD sitting next to me right now). It's supposed to be big in imbedded systems and as a result extremely fast. I'll be sure to post on this whenever I get around to trying it out.

Btw, QNX is the OS, so you're not getting away without one. You just get away from a lot of the bloat that comes with most OSs.

Thanks ccieToBe, yes your right the floppy is running the QNX OS albeit very scaled down. I meant that running off a floppy obviously is different to having MSWindows (about 400MB) or RedHat Linux(1200MB); running from a hard drive. Let me know what you think. Cheers Grollo.

I am amazed! Anyone try it.

They actually backward the concept and make it smaller.
