Author need some advice

hello. i'm a bit confused on which os to study for as i don't know much about linux, sun ect. i've thought about doing ms2000 server to compliment my ccna when it's done, but thinking of staying away from ms as it seems every man and his dog is doing it.
is there demand for linux, sun ect?

If you are going to study Linux, then make it Red HYat, as that is the most popular business platform. As for UNIX, it's hard to say, but there are so many similarites that knowing any one of them will help you with the others, so just pick one that you like . . . HP-UX, Solaris, BSD, SysV, etc. and get to know it well.

Yes, a lot more people are going the MS route, but there are also a lot more jobs available in that area. There is plenty of demand for those who are proficient in any of these OSs.

My advice? Try a little bit of everything and see what you like. Get evaluation copies of 2K/Whistler and NetWare, and a copy of one of the more basic Linux distros. Play around with them and your preferences will become aparent. I suggest against starting out with full fledged Unix though. It's already overwhelming enough for someone who's familiar with Linux.

Btw, the IOS is very *nixy. A lot of the commands that you're learning (especially editing) apply to both.
