Wehn running Linux and Windows, I usually prefer to keep them on separate hard drives as WIndows often seems to suffer from an acute case of sibling rivalry. PM 6.0 would make this task pretty easy, but there are free tools (FIPS) that can make it easier as well, although it is not as intuitive. If you use multiple physical drives, you can use the CMOS settings as your boot manager, which is what I do. Read your Red Hat install manual before trying this, though and read the HCL to make sure your HW is supported.

I haven't gotten a chance to use XP yet, what's it like? Is it that much different from Win2k? RedHat should be able to automaticaly detect XP and place it in the MBR, but I'm not sure. You may want to search RH's site for into on this.

XP is only slightly different from W2K as far as I can tell....check this site out for an unbiased review and screenshots of the XP windows look....it can have the new windows look or a more classic look for those that are fans of the classic Windows feel.

IMPORTANT...

make sure your BIOS can run in XP...mine wasn't and AWARD wanted 80$ US to replace it....so instead i am buying a new motherboard to fix that problem

so far so good....XP is a big improvement over ME....much more stable.

Hope this helps you.

I think XP is just another name to make people spend more money. WinME was a joke!

Windows products that are 9x based are particularly unhappy when they are not the first os loaded (basically c drive). the linuxes are very good at loading themselves basically anywhere and keeping the boot information in the partition, not the mbr.

nt can use boot.ini file and therefore you can point lilo or something similar to any partition to boot nt.

haven't tried to multi-boot win2k/xp and linux...

Yes, I noticed that when I upgraded Win98 to WinME when I already had Caldera OpenLinux on another partition, I had probs. The Win 9x/ME series seems to have particular problems with this. Haven't had the same prob with Windows 2000 yet.

Good catch cruss575. I should have double checked my post before clicking submit.
