| Which one will you pick?
SuSe or RedHat.
Once of my P/T company pick the SuSe, not the RH. And I pick SuSe for my friend, too.
What do you think? I know that is the old Question, but recently my new job people are talking the manager into the linux system for some adv user in the IT dept.

| Well, I'm not a very big fan of either of these. For a business I would say RedHat because it's better documented and supported. SUSE's more cut out for individuals who want to try out a lot of programs. | |

| I'd say SuSe if I only had those two to choose from. Red Hat has more support and that's a big plus, but it is IMHO far from the best or easiest distro to use. I prefer Mandrake or Caldera over it anyday. If I had my own way, it would be either Slackware, Debian or BSD. | |

| If you want to be familiar with a single Linux distribution so that it can get you a job, go for Red Hat since Red Hat has the most market share. | |

| My "limited knowledge" tells me to go with Redhat! | |
|
| This question reminds me something.
I once stated that I used Red Hat and Pico in a Linux newsgroup and I got flamed.
Yes, I got flamed JUST because I used Red Hat and Pico.

| Hehe, it's funny how many holly wars occur on most Linux boards. It seems like half the posts are "My distro/program is better then yours". This doesn't occur much here though, unless you count the occasional Windows basing, but that's to be expected | |

| A lot of that irks me. To be honest, my favourite distro is usually the one I am using! I don't care for Corel much, but I can get it to do what I want. All of that is just pointless. It's all Linux under the hood. As long as you know what you are doing, you can MAKE it work the way you want it to. And as far as the M$ bashing goes, I must confess I am guilty of some of it, but on USENET is really gets out of hand. It's like they forget all about the tech side and go after the politics. It's just wasted breath. Hopefully, we can keep this forum clear of that sort of silliness. | |

It all depends on your level of thinking and how "childish" you are. I have to say that I have seen some posts here that literally pissed me off, but you can't let distractions come in your way!
Those of us, who are here to learn, help others, and have fun, will always stay that way. Well... hopefully

| I agree with you 100% Randy as far as the Microsoft bashing goes. It is purely political. People don't realize that without Microsoft a very large majority of people would not have tech jobs and the IT industry would not be a hot as it is today. I am not being a cheerleader for Microsoft, but I am trying to be real.
As far as which distro to use between Red Hat and SuSE, choose the one you feel the most comfortable with. ReD Hat would be the better choice if you are thinking about using Linux in a corporate environment.
From my short experience with Linux, the only major difference in the distros is the installer. Like Randy said, "...it's all Linux under the hood." Personally, Corel Linux 1.2 is my favorite as far as ease of use and for a typical workstation. Red Hat is a close second.

| Mandrake has always been my choice. I started with RedHat, but they are too conservative compared to Mandrake. Drake is considered "cutting edge" in the Linux world. | |

| Yeah, bashing M$ is political, but still lots of fun . I think they do a great job of making OSs that the typical end-user can understand. Server OSs are a different matter. IMO the DOJ needs to back off. Linux is proving that competition does exist in the OS market. |
