| I just setup a RAID 0 array with a couple 30GB IBM Deskstars and a Promise Fast Trak66 controller on my main PC and the speed is amazing. I was able to install Windows 98 in 8 minutes and FreeBSD in 15. This is definitely a lot cheaper then a comparable SCSI setup.
Unfortunately, it looks like Linux doesn't support the Fast Trak, but I'll keep looking and see if I can find a way. Linux is able to see the array, but can't read the partition table. I'm thinking of manually entering in a reserved range of sectors for Linux to use. Does anyone know if this would work, or have some other idea?

| Haven't tried this yet. Lemme do some looking and see if I can find anything that might be of use to you. | |

| Tell you what if cost was not an option you should try it with a couple of SCSI Raid controllers with 4 disks...its amazing how fast it is | |

| Thanks Randy. It seems like my idea should work, but who knows.

Why only 4? Of course, the array's already taking up most of the PCI bus's bandwidth (overclocked to 36MHz), so at that point I'd need a faster bus.
The speed really is amazing considering that the two hard drives and RAID controller costed a total of $340. That's about the going rate for a SCSI 160 controller.

| Well yeah you could have more disks....like 31 per controller (assuming you have UtltraWide 160's) but that's just nuts!!! But jees what a speed you would get from the system | |
