| Samba 2.2.0 was released on the 17th. This is great news because now Samba supports Windows 2000 logins among other things. You can find more info at www.samba.org
I guess now I can replace the NT PDC at work with a FreeBSD box I was going to earlier with 2.0.x, but decided to put it off so that there would be only one migration. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
Does anyone know what's going on with FreeBSD 4.3? I thought it was supposed to come out in late March.

| I know, this is gonna make Microsoft's collective blood pressures go through the roof! They were planning on trying to use Win2K Pro to force people to use the Win2K Servers, but the hacker crowd seems to be a bit ahead of them. I don't know what's up with BSD. I've been waiting on it as well. Let me know if you find out anything. | |

| Yeah, I bet M$ is nervous. Looking at some of the benchmarks that are out there, there's good reason.
I was able to find on FreeBSD's website that the release date was pushed back to mid April. I guess they're having some problems.
|
| It IS mid-April, though! Actually, it's late April. Maybe I should start looking for the downloads.
Yeah, considering how Linux seemed to regularly outperform NT 4.0, I can see why M$ would be worried. I were bet they were banking on Samba not being able to interface with Win2K for quite some time yet.

| What is samba? | |
|
| Samba is a tool that lets Linux/UNIX boxes act as servers for Windows clients. | |

| I remember how excited I was when I got RedHat with samba running as a PDC in 98, what a feeling. I think it would be sweet to see FreeBSD or Linux integrated in a Win2000 domain model including REPL traffic :-) | |

| Well Win2K hasn't been out for that long just yet . . . I think you'll get your wish within the next few months. | |
