| Anybody here have any experience with the Be Operating System? (Where'd they get that lame name anyway???). I downloaded the personal version the other day and tried to use it on my NT 4.0 Workstation and Win 98 machines. It failed on Win98 (but that is using newer hardware that Be might not support), but it seems to do OK on the NT 4.0. So far I am not that impressed with it . . . it seems to have the desktop look and feel of a Mac, with a simple Unix file system. I haven't been able to connect to the Internet with it and it seems a bit lacking in applications (to put it mildly). At the moment I am just playing around on it, but would appreciate feedback from anyone who has had any experience with it. Maybe the professional version is more impressive, but am getting kind of partial to free stuff.  | |

| although I have no hands on experience with it, I hear that it is the multimedia OS. If you are a graphics artist or multimedia guru then it is your OS. | |

| It does seem to be designed with multimedia in mind, but still, there aren't many applications to work with. I'm still puttering around with it, but it certainly isn't what I was expecting. Not bad, but not very powerful from what I have seen. | |

| I tried it out a while ago with both Win98 and Win2k, both worked fine for me. I hate Mac software though, and the simularities were too much so I deleted it within an hour of the initial install. Just like a Mac, you can't do much with it. Not that having a G4 would be a bad thing, I'd just load Linux on it.

| I know, I never cared much for Macs myself, and that's what it is like to me. There's hardly any "real" applications that I can play with either. And it looks like I am stuck with the bash shell. I think I'll play around with it for a few weeks when I don't have anything else to do, but this one doesn't look like a keeper. Thanks for relaying the message . . . I probably need to get a bit more study done as well. |
