another question: I haven't come across any documention on Win 2000 Prof and Linux dual-boot....is it possible to dual-boot Win 2000 Prof with Linux 7.2. During installation I install LILO. I have tried on the same hard-drive and on separate drives. I have win 2000 on one hard drive and linux on the slave drive....any suggestions....I may need to buy a software package for this to happen...

I've tried to do this with RH 7.1. I got it working except I did it without loading LILO or any bootloader. Rather, I used a Linux boot floppy each time I wanted to boot into RH. I think if you try to install LILO on the boot partition of your Windows 2000 drive, it will overwrite the MBR and you won't be able to get back into Windows. I could be wrong; but that is what I heard.

I always use Partition Magic from Quest software. Version 6.0 certainly can handle Win2K and Linux on the same machine in a dual boot configuration. However, this is not necessary. LILO can handle the job. How do you have your LILO configured? I would bet that is the problem. There is a tutorial available here:

Go for the method sibley mentioned.Booting off the bdisk all the time is wimpy.Plus if you corrupt that disk....by all means keep a backup emergency repair disk for both of your OS`s.

If you need any help....

Heres another good link for this situation.

sibley's technique sounds good. I've been able to dual boot Windows 2000 and Mandrake without any trouble.
