| Has anyone configured a cable modem with Linux. All I read about is dial-up and nothing about configuring a cable modem. I have tried entering the IP addresses and everything, but it doesn't to connect.
thaks!!! | |

| How are you set up?
Add the modems ip to your ethernet adapter as a gateway.Add DNS servers and you should be in business.
Otherwise post your config and we will get you set up.However put IP tables/Masquerding into any search engine....read up before you want to implement. You need to do this for a secure static link.
We wont hold your mcse against you here.Welcome

It all depends on your setup. Most cable services provide a cable modem (not a router) and dynamic ip addresses. If that's the case you just need to set your NIC to use DHCP and make DNS server entries if DHCP doesn't pick those up.

| use the latest mandrake
it detects your cablemodem/dsl conection and nic card automatically
just make sure to have a PCI nic card
|
| Assuming Linux picks up your nic and is working properly.
You need the following
Host name (correct name of your pc assigned by the ISP)
Ip address
Subnet mask
Default Gateway
DNS server address | |

| Might have been locked out with a lock file. Linux uses them to ensure only one person has exclusive use to a piece of hardware that cannot be shared. |
