I see that there's an option of creating a dual OS: Linux and Win. Is that usually a good idea? What are the advantages versus the disadvantages?

a dual os, do you mean http://www.lindows.com ?
well, its one of those where some people think its a great idea and some people think its a horrible idea, the only place where i could see that being advantageous at all would be obviously at the desktop, you could run win32 applications on a linux-like os, but some people would say "why would you want to do that", which im more inclined to say, but i think any project that helps linux increase popularity is good .. jus my 2cents ..

I think it may be a good idea in certain scenarious, but IMO using something like VMWare or WINE is preferable.
