scraped from the opinions section of LinuxWorld...

"...As an advocate of Linux on the desktop, I'm not all that interested in how a distribution might be made to work on the desktop. I want one that's there already.

In a lot of ways, that means SuSE. There are others who make distributions suitable for desktop use, but I don't think anyone is as committed to general desktop Linux as SuSE is. Friends who use it say its installation routine is the best in the business, and it is reputed to recognize hardware very well."

I haven't used SUSE much, but I can tell you that it comes with a zillion programs. The little I have seen looks nice for a desktop.

Im yet to use it.Ive heard very good things though.Especially about YAST.I think its good to try out some various flavors to determine which distro you are comfortable with.It makes the learning easier.

For someone just starting out.I highly recommend Running Linux by oreily.Read it first. Then follow along through the book with a distro. The book is generic enough to be able to do that.Im so glad I took that advice its really paid off.

Dont be a stranger. We are more than willing to help
